  • Marsha Blackburn and other wingnuts sign off on theocracy

Thirty-one members of the US House of Representatives seem to think the establishment of an American theocracy is a more urgent matter than any of the economic, military, or environmental problems we face. Those 31, including Tennessee's own resident wingnut Marsha Blackburn, have co-sponsored HR 598; the bill's stated purpose is: Supporting ...

  • Where there's smoke there's fire

Some yahoo in Poland took a photo of a bonfire with a cheapo camera, and its cheapo slow lens (probably exposed for a full second) recorded an image of the flames repeatedly folding back on themselves. The gullible see an image of Pope John Paul II (Daily Mail via TruthDig): People see what they want to see. Stare at clouds long enough, and ...

  • Curious relics

The Tennessee state Constitution carries some interesting relics of the past. Article IX is particularly fascinating: ARTICLE IXDisqualifications. Section 1. Whereas ministers of the Gospel are by their profession, dedicated to God and the care of souls, and ought not to be diverted from the great duties of their functions; therefore, no ...

  • From outrage to juvenile snickering in one click

Today, I read the latest idiotic statement from the Vatican, and my outrage began to coalesce: In comments released in advance of an interview to be published today in the German weekly Süeddeutsche Magazin, [Msgr. Georg Gänswein, Pope Benedict XVI’s secretary] said: ''Attempts to Islamize the West cannot be denied. The danger for the identity ...

  • Craziest story of the day: Romanian guy sues God

The lead paragraph says it all: A Romanian convict doing time for murder tried to sue God for breaking the contract they allegedly concluded at his baptism and not doing enough to protect him from Satan. The public prosecutor turned down the case -- because God does not have a home address.

  • The strangest religion ever

All religions are strange to one degree or another, but this one takes the cake: a cargo cult in the South Pacific whose believers are convinced that Prince Philip (yes, that Prince Philip) is a god. They could've at least picked someone a little less offensive, like Prince Edward or the Queen Mother or somebody.

  • The Pope's pointy hat is on too tight

He's at it again. Pope Benny offended pretty much every indigenous person in the Western hemisphere when he said this in Brazil: In a speech to Latin American and Caribbean bishops at the end of a visit to Brazil, the Pope said the Church had not imposed itself on the indigenous peoples of the Americas. They had welcomed the arrival of ...

  • Follow-up on Satan's minions posing as illegal immigrants

In this post, I mentioned a resolution being considered by a county-wide Republican party convention in Utah. The resolution declared that illegal immigration was the work of Satan. The state Senate Republican party leader predicted ''I don't think there is going to be a great deal of people attributing the problem to Satan'' at Saturday's ...

  • The devil made 'em do it

A Utah Republican has introduced a resolution in his county asserting that illegal immigration is the work of Satan. No, really. I'm not making this up. Here's what he says: ''In order for Satan to establish his 'New World Order' and destroy the freedom of all people as predicted in the scriptures, he must first destroy the U.S.,'' Larsen’s ...
