106-year-old nuns for Obama!
Sister Cecilia Gaudette is a bit shocked at the media attention she's garnered over the last few days, but the attention is understandable. The 106-year-old nun, born in New Hampshire in 1902, has lived in a convent in Rome for the last fifty years, and she hasn't voted in a US Presidential election since 1952.
This year, things are different: she's voting for Obama:
She had this to say about Obama:
"I'm encouraged by Senator Obama," the nun, who will be among the oldest Americans to vote, told the BBC. "I've never met him, but he seems to be a good man with a good private life. That's the first thing. Then he must be able to govern."
[...]
She said she hoped Senator Obama, if elected, will be able to bring an end to the war in Iraq and contribute to fostering world peace.
The good sister ain't the only one with that hope.
