Marsha Blackburn and other wingnuts sign off on theocracy

Thirty-one members of the US House of Representatives seem to think the establishment of an American theocracy is a more urgent matter than any of the economic, military, or environmental problems we face. Those 31, including Tennessee's own resident wingnut Marsha Blackburn, have co-sponsored HR 598; the bill's stated purpose is:

Supporting the goals of the Ten Commandments Commission and congratulating such Commission and its supporters for their key role in promoting and ensuring recognition of the Ten Commandments as the cornerstone of Western law.

As Irregular Times notes:

By signing their names to a bill expressing official governmental support for the goals of the Ten Commandments Commission, these members of the House of Representatives have made an open declaration in support of an American theocracy and in opposition to the Constitution of the United States of America.

Never mind the fact that the Ten Commandments are not even remotely related to the foundation of Western law, much less the "cornerstone" of it; that distinction belongs to Roman (i.e. pagan) civil law and English common law. The bill cuts to the chase when it declares "Ten Commandments Weekend" as being "dedicated to the display, awareness, commemoration, and celebration of the Decalogue which we know to be the foundation of the Judeo-Christian faith."

This right-wing nonsense isn't about the origins of our legal system at all; this cynical and hypocritical resolution seeks to establish "the Judeo-Christian faith" (whatever that is) as the official mode of national prostration. Members of Congress who would dare sign their names to this anti-American crap should be impeached for breaking their oath to uphold the Constitution.

Lovely. They say the young don't know history, civics, etc. The least these people could do is watch a little History channel.
