More awesomeness from TED: amazing underwater life
TED is always a site full of provocative ideas. This video clip shows how little we really understand about the undersea world; most of the clip relates to visual camouflage and bioluminescence as tools for attraction, conveying information, and defense.
Check this out:
The octopus camouflage at the end is jaw-dropping, and the squid mating color thing is pretty funny.
We could learn a lot from the natural world about security, defense, and adaptation. What if banking transactions were as carefully camouflaged as the octopus? What if the hunt for terrorists included fake targets as brightly lit as the predators which use bioluminescence as a means of attracting prey? There's a lot to think about here.
