Blowing away the fog of fear-mongering
This pretty much says it all:
The New York University Center on Law and Security has completed a review of cases classified by the federal courts as terrorism related, starting from September 11, 2001 and going up through September 11, 2006. The report, using data compiled by a team of NYU law student researchers, shows that of the 510 defendants classified as terrorism defendants, only 163 were actually charged with terrorism or material support of terrorism. Only 4 of these defendants were convicted on charges of terrorism during the period.

The report concludes, "The overall record revealed in these charts suggests the presence of few, if any, prevalent terrorist threats currently within the US."
That's an understatement.
Of course, the hype over the "war on terror" will persist as long as it continues to succeed as an election strategy, and as long as it continues to succeed as a justification for the erosion of civil liberties. Considering the fact that the military is violating the Posse Comitatus Act by using the FBI as a shill to spy on Americans, it should become clear to even the most zealous Bushian dead-enders that the "war on terror" is merely a charade.
