The Commutator Guy
I guess Bush can now start calling himself "The Commutator Guy":
"I respect the jury's verdict. But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive," Bush said in a statement. "Therefore, I am commuting the portion of Mr. Libby's sentence that required him to spend thirty months in prison."
Yeah, because perjury and obstruction of justice are no big deal, right?
Rachel said it well:
You know, I think I'd mind a pardon less. This is just plan micro-managing the judiciary. Not to mention that Bush has said before he wouldn't get involved as long as Libby still had appeals left. ... And it's a holiday week, so you're not supposed to notice.
This is either a brazen act of defiance or a breathtaking act of stupidity, and I'm not yet sure which. Bush is either saying that commiting crimes in order to protect him, Cheney, and Rove is acceptable, or he's daring the Congress to impeach him.
I hope they take him up on the dare.
